Suzuki's first ATV was released in 1982. The QuadRunner LT125 featured an odometer, 5-speed transmission complete with reverse, power low gear and an automatic clutch.
The first high-performance 4-wheeled ATV produced by Suzuki was the LT250R, also known as the QuadRacer 250. The LT250R featured a two-stroke engine that was based off the engine from the motorcross bike, the Suzuki RM250. The QuadRacer 250 was produced from 1985 to 1992 and featured a long-travel suspension and a liquid-cooled motor. The 1985 and 1986 models came equipped with a 5-speed transmission that was manual, while the 1987 to 1992 models were equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. The QuadRacer 500 was introduced in 1986 and featured the largest displacement of any ATV on the market at the time.
In 1987, all of the major ATV producers, including Suzuki, discontinued making three-wheeled ATV models. The Consumer Product Safety Commission brought about the cessation of 3-wheeled ATV production. Suzuki produced 11 four-wheeled models by this time.
The first KINGQUAD model was unveiled in 1991. The KINGQUAD featured an enlarged engine displacement of 280cc as compared to the previous 246cc. It also had larger tires than previous models as well as a locking front differential and an oil cooler that was standard.
In 2002, Suzuki made the EIGER 400 available. The EIGER 400 was later named the KINGQUAD 400AS/4X4. The 400 was a powerful middleweight ATV. The optional fully automatic CVT and easy 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive selection added to an already remarkable performance.
The QuadSport Z400, produced in 2002, was the sportiest ATV made to date. The Z400 featured a liquid-cooled aluminum alloy DOHC 4-valve engine that added to its performance. The QuadSport Z400 helped make ATV racing mainstream and increased rider participation.
The KINGQUAD 700, later versions were called the KINGQUAD 750AXi, included the first electronic fuel-injection system in the industry. This proved to be a major turning point in the history of the ATV. The KINGQUAD 700 won several "ATV of the Year" awards for this innovation in 2005.
The QuadRacer R450 featured Suzuki's electronic fuel injection. This ATV was considered the first race-ready design in the ATV world. The R450 came equipped with a RM-Z450 engine that offered power but at the same time had superb handling for ATV racing. Suzuki remains a leader in the ATV industry as well as in ATV racing.
